Bring Your Own Kiosk

Requirements

In order to use an existing iPad as a Sober Peer kiosk, the device must meet the minimum requirements listed below.

  1. iPad manufactured after 2018.

  2. It is the general version of the ipad (not the mini, air, or pro).

  3. Runs at least iOS 11.X or iPadOS 13.X or greater.

  4. Has continuous access to the internet via wifi or cellular.

Please Note: Each additional device added to the center is $50/month. Please update your kiosk license accordingly under Admin > Manage Licenses > Kiosk Use License.

How to Join Your Own Device

Converting your existing iPad to a Sober Peer kiosk takes about 10 - 15 minutes depending on your technical expertise.

Prerequisites

  1. The iPad is connected to the internet.

  2. You have the required Jamf username and password provided by Sober Peer or an affiliated representative. (Reach out to our support agent, Charlie, for the account info).

  3. You have the Sober Peer kiosk username and password provided by Sober Peer or an affiliated representative.

Instructions

  • Setup the iPad using the basic settings making sure to connect to the wifi. You can skip the apple id creation, though if you do create one, then please write down the apple id and passcode used and provide that information to Sober Peer.

  • Next, we'll download the Jamf remote management software to your device, which will allow us to deploy Sober Peer's kiosk. Before you get started, please get the password and username from a Sober Peer rep. You can reach out on the live chat to connect with us.

  • Using Safari, navigate to https://soberpeer.jamfcloud.com/enroll (make sure you include the https)

  • Type in the username and password provided by Sober Peer.

  • Skip the assign to user prompt and click Enroll.

  • On the next screen, allow for the MDM profile to be downloaded.

  • You should see a quick downloading graphic flash. This can sometimes be hard to notice. From here, you may get a notification that the MDM profile is not installed - you can ignore that.

  • Now, navigate back to the iPad's settings tab. On the top left, you'll see a prompt to complete the installation. Follow the prompts to continue the installation. The iPad will seem to resist you installing the MDM profile, but just keep moving forward with the prompts until you see the confirmation that the profile was successfully installed.

  • While still in the settings, jump over to Accessibility > Guided Access and perform a couple of tasks. This feature allows the iPad to function as a kiosk.

    • Turn on Guided Access mode.

    • Set a passcode. Please write this down and provide it to us for reference.

    • Turn on the Accessibility Shortcut.

    • Double check to make sure the Display Auto-Lock is set for Default, or Never. If you find the display turning off and requiring a passcode to log back in, double check this setting as it is the likely culprit.

  • Navigate back to the home screen. In about 30 seconds you'll be prompted to allow Sober Peer to remotely manage the device as well as install a few different apps. Agree to all the prompts.

  • On a new home screen, you'll see the Sober Peer kiosk installed. Open the application and log in using the provided username and password from Sober Peer. This username and password is custom to your center. If you need to reset the password, then reach out to Sober Peer for assistance.

  • Once logged in, select a random client by clicking on the profile image. You will be prompted for camera access, please allow.

  • Once the authentication fails using the facial authentication method, back out of the user and remain on the screen showing all the in house clients.

  • Triple click the home button to enable the Guided Access mode. In the top right click the start/continue text. Do not select any part of the screen to disable.

That's it! You are all set and your kiosk is ready to use! Make sure to store it in a safe place, preferably with a locked case.
